Thank You, Grandpa George

Grandpa George has been serving as a Foster Grandparent volunteer since 2012. To say he is devoted to his role as a volunteer and the children he mentor and tutors is an understatement. Here are just a few samples of what his volunteer station staff at Joel E. Barber C5 School say about him!

  • The kids LOVE him and go out of their way to give him a high five or hug. It is noticeable that students are disappointed if they don’t get to see him as we walk through the hallway or are heading out to buses at the end of the day.
  • Grandpa George sets a wonderful example as a male role-model. The boys get to see that example on a daily basis as he works with them in the classroom. He sets a high standard for our kids!
  • Watching Grandpa George share about his days in the service was one of the coolest things I’ve ever witnessed. His students were hanging on every word he said! I was so proud of him that day!
  • When they (the students) first meet him they think his growly voice is kinda wowza! But they quickly fall in love with his nicknames, corny words, and wisdom.
  • He is the one person that most students make sure that they say hello and good bye. Grandpa George is a popular name and well established with our school. I don’t know what we will do when he is no longer with us.
